Our Mission:

Grand Mesa Observatory is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization that will provide hands on experiences and educational opportunities that foster a passion for astronomy and science in Western Colorado. We will be accomplishing this mission throughout the United States and globally via remote control of professional-grade telescopes, thereby providing the dark skies and technical capabilities that are lacking in so many educational settings.

I see this as a method to attract people to science. It’s interesting but not so complicated that it feels insurmountable for someone who doesn’t have a background in mathematics. We can engage students who would otherwise be lost to moving into science.”
— Dr. Jared Workman, The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

Our Goals:

  • To create hands-on experiences for enrichment educational opportunities for those who have a passion for astronomy and science.

  • To provide access to professional-grade astronomical equipment for individuals, groups, and organizations that may not otherwise have access.

  • To engage both the local and online astronomical communities and provide educational opportunities for both.

  • To coordinate with local schools, universities, nonprofit organizations, and science centers to offer programs that will enhance the learning experience of all those involved.

  • To cultivate and encourage a passion for the STEM fields in educational institutions both in the United States and abroad.

  • To become a financially self-sustaining organization that will eventually be able to provide grants and scholarships to local students.
