Our Mission:

Grand Mesa Observatory is a nonprofit educational organization that will provide hands on experiences and educational opportunities to foster a passion for astronomy and science in western Colorado. We will be accomplishing this mission throughout the United States and other countries around the world via remote control of the telescopes.

I see this as a method to attract people to science. It’s interesting but not so complicated that it feels insurmountable for someone who doesn’t have a background in mathematics. We can engage students who would otherwise be lost to moving into science.”
— Jared Workman, The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel

Our Goals:

  • To create hands-on experiences for enrichment educational opportunities for those who have a passion for astronomy and science.
  • To provide access to professional-grade astronomical equipment for individuals, groups, and organizations that may not otherwise have access.
  • To coordinate with local schools, universities, nonprofit organizations, and science centers to offer programs that will enhance the learning experience of all those involved.
  • To become a financially self-sustaining organization that will eventually be able to provide grants and scholarships to local students.
